Ducati Monster 696
May 7, 2008 – 7:48 pm
In reference to all of the glamour, glitz and exposure that Ducati’s renowned 1098 and all of its variants have received within the past year, one could almost completely loose sight of the mere fact that Bologna, Italy which is the bike maker, has several other products. The accolades that have stemmed from prestigious motopublications and the average Ducatisti that have all leaped upon the very brilliant Twin are very well deserved; this is a machine that has ratcheted the name Ducati on up to the stratosphere on the scale of all the things that are desirable. A private jet, home located within the South of France, fine wines, exotic automobiles, beautiful spouse, admiration by all of those that we desire, and a high-performance Ducati sportbike. So, you could say that a bright red Ducati 1098 is going to be right at home within that imaginary life.
In all actuality, we are very quick about forgetting the little guy. Ducati’s glory-grabbing superbikes owe a lot of the Monster Line’s sustainability, now seventeen years after the Monster line has been seen. Ducati realizes this now. In fact, Ducati knows it to the point that the opening night of the introduction for the Monster 696 in 2009 within Barcelona which was a gala dinner that was held at the Museu D’Art Contemporani De Barcelona, this event was replete with all of the local dignitaries, which includes all of the Ducati chieftains and ambassador of Spain from Italy.
Even though the 695, the tiniest Monster’s recent iteration, is only a couple of years old, visually comparing the 695 to the 696 makes the former look as if it is older than it really is. The uninspired mirrors, round headlamp and trellis subframe which are mostly hidden from plain view, traditionally and traditional placed exhaust cans, vanilla indicators, simple instrument cluster, box-section and taillight swingarm, just to name several pieces, simply have made the 695, no matter how functional the motorcycle may be, looked very unattractive when it was pitted besides of its replacement. The 696 is considered to be as much as an exercise in styling as it may be in general improvement.
The main section of the simplified trellis the 696 possesses is a lot meatier and it now joins with a subframe that is cast-aluminum which blends elegantly well so that one can easily be fooled into thinking that no subframe even exists. A unique footpeg hanger and hefty swingarm complete the entire package.
The overall dimensions largely remain the same except for a minute and four tenths of an inch increase within the wheelbase; trail and rake are still twenty four degrees and ninety six millimeters, speaking respectively. The one figure that hasn’t changed is the thirty point three inch saddle height that is rider friendly. When that is combined with a fuel tank that has been reshaped for the narrowness where it greets the seat, what is known as the rider triangle as became much friendlier and it should also be very endearing to all of the ladies with the handle bars that are easy to reach.
