(And no, it's not a sport bike) Why would I buy a 50cc scooter that may get 100mpg, but only go 20mph. Scooters are for people who can't pass their motorcycle endorsement tests. Motorcycles are so light that they really don't suck down much more gas when you ride them harder, this is usually more of a problem with cars and trucks. Hell, I rode up a 14,110 mountian and back down over the weekend. I spent most of the trip on the mountain in first or second gear, and still got 43mpg. I didn't see any scooters either.
